Calverley Golf Club Captain 2020
Dear Fellow Members, Friends & Visitors to Calverley Golf Club.
It is such a great honour and a privilege to be your Club Captain. Having previously served as Rabbit’s Captain, my ongoing commitment to the club is the reason why I said “yes” when Mick Marshall asked me to be his Vice-Captain. I now wish him all the best as President of Calverley Golf Club.
I joined Calverley Golf Club in 2012, having started playing golf at Shay Grange in 2008 after retiring from playing cricket. Since I joined the club, I’ve made lots of new friends and always enjoy the camaraderie and banter that creates such a good atmosphere both on and off the course. I want to help that continue and maintain the reputation of this “friendly club”.
As this is the club’s 40th anniversary and 30 years since our Junior and Senior sections were set up, my fundraising objective this year will focus on the community of Calverley. Specifically, to provide sports equipment for the two primary schools in Calverley. I believe in the many benefits that sport offers beyond the physical exercise and that children should enjoy playing sport and have fun. If we support the schools in this way it will help them achieve their goals in this area and, maybe, bring new people to the club. Your support this year will be greatly appreciated and I hope that you will continue to be as generous as in previous years.
I’m looking forward to working with my Vice Captain Richard Lonsdale and the Committee, who give their time so freely to aid the smooth running of our Club.
May I also wish the best of luck to our section captains this year;
Margaret Palmer – Ladies Captain, Billy Banks – Senior’s Captain, Alan Lister – Rabbit’s Captain and Matthew Harwood – Junior Captain.
Finally, may I wish everyone at Calverley Golf Club a healthy and prosperous year ahead and I hope that 2020 will be full of good spirit, friendship and good golf.
