The Course
Calverley Golf Club 18 hole golf course is a par 68, 5649 yard course that spans both sides of Woodhall Lane, through the beautiful West Yorkshire countryside around Pudsey. It starts with a short but challeging front 9 that includes the par 3 'The Quarry', a hole not for the faint hearted. The second 9 opens out and meandours though the picturesque countryside and eventually brings you to the 18th green in front of the Clubhouse.
It is our ultimate vision that Calverley Golf Club will boast 27 top class golf holes playable in 3 loops of 9, together with a suitable clubhouse and associated facilities.
The most significant progress in this respect is the Peter McEvoy designed redevelopment of the old 9 hole course, which has now been completed and opened for play in early 2009.
Peter McEvoy will not need any introduction to anybody interested in golf, and we were very pleased to have him on board for this project. The vision and form for Peter's design is now clear for all to see. Peter is probably the best British amateur golfer of the last thirty years and has represented his country at all levels. He has also captained his country and Walker Cup teams as well as being chairman of selectors. In recent years Peter has brought this vast experience and natural golfing affinity to golf course design.
Peter McEvoy's involvement in conjunction with the Club Professional in the design of the new course, drawing on his wealth of experience in the game has ensured that the new loop of 9 holes became a top quality layout and a good test of golf for all abilities with many classic, picturesque and individually challenging holes.
The quality of design and construction provide tangible evidence of the standard that we aspire to for the whole facility, and we are sure that it will become a favourite for discerning golfers in the area.
